ABOUT LORI PUNKO
For the past 22 years, I have been the lead sports designer for The Denver Post. I've produced pages for every event on the Denver and Colorado sports scene — from prep championships to Super Bowls and the Olympic games. In that time, I went from being the only designer in sports to one of a staff of seven and back to being the only designer again as The Post faced continued staff cuts.
In 2017, my position was outsourced to a design hub in Boulder, and my role changed to "content coordinator." It became my job to direct another designer to do my work – and maintain the standards of The Denver Post. At the end of June 2018, my position is set to be eliminated.
As I begin the next chapter in my career – mostly likely outside of newspapers – I have given a lot of thought to what skills my career in journalism has honed and how they could apply elsewhere.
My experience has made me a strong designer, a critical photo editor, a clear and concise writer and proficient copy editor. I know how to meet a deadline and how to adjust on a moment's notice. In short, I am confident that if you give me an opportunity, I can make your product – and your organization – better.
